The best hotel yachts

Ever set foot inside a palatial honeymoon suite and think: “sure, it’s nice — but can it float?” If so, the latest boating trend — luxury hotels building and chartering their very own yachts —is tailor-made for you. Here are six of our favourites from across the seven seas.

Named Dhahab, the Arabic word for golden, the Six Senses Zighy Bay’s 27.5m Omani Dhow offers a first-class experience. Up to six guests can cruise through the rugged Musandam fjords on a bespoke charter. With unique marine life and corals in the fjords, this part of the world is shrouded in kaleidoscopic colours, tantalising folklore and unforgettable scenery.

Amanwana, Indonesia

Amandira is an illustrious 52m traditional phinisi that was hand built by the Konjo tribe and launched in 2015. Set off from the eco-conscious Amanwana resort to explore the Nusa Tenggara Islands and Komodo National Park. Famed for extraordinarily diverse marine life, the Indonesian waters can be explored by snorkel or the on board dive centre.

Borgo Santo Pietro

Satori is a 42m schooner that oozes elegance thanks to its medley of mahogany and walnut. She can accommodate 10 and boasts a spa suite complete with steam room. There are plenty of toys on which to hit the water, though the best spot is on the top deck, where guests can observe the riviera while indulging in the creations of the Michelin-star chefs.

Over Yonder Clay

Can you summon a more relaxing image than enjoying a cocktail in a secluded Caribbean bay without another boat in sight? We thought not. Head to the island resort of Over Yonder Cay to charter its 34.8m sailing yacht Tenacious, which can accommodate up to eight guests in four well-appointed cabins. Alternatively, grab a seaplane straight to her mooring.

Datai Langkawi

Head to the stunning islands off the western coast of Malaysia to experience The Datai Langkawi’s traditional 30m schooner, crafted using local chengal wood. Named Naga Pelangi, it’s available for bespoke charters from November to May and boasts four double bed cabins with ensuites. Guests can explore the nearby islands of Ko Ra Wi, Ko Adang and the Ko Hin Sorn nature reserve.

The Mark, New York

Glide down the Hudson River to enjoy unique views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and New York’s glittering skyline on board Ventura, The Mark’s charming 21m sailboat. Originally launched in 1921, six years before The Mark opened its doors to the chic elite of Manhattan’s Upper East Site, it boasts a solid mahogany hull and Indian teak decks. Up to 25 guests can quaff Champagne and sample morsels by chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, all while reclining on plumped cushions in The Mark’s signature stripe.

Yes, I'm old school. I have good manners. I open the door for a lady. I'm romantic & gentle at times. I respect all women and genuinely provide compliments. For some it might seem like a weakness, but my chivalry leaves women breathless. It's no right or wrong way, it's just the gentleman way.
